For nearly three decades, we've been crafting our whiskeys, gins and other spirits in the old way: by hand without computers or robots. Hell, the internet barely works out here.

Ransom Distillery & Farm is a throwback to the 19th century, and a uniquely American style of distillation. Back then, these craft spirits gave rise to a new style of short drink, called the cocktail. The American cocktail soon swept the globe, becoming the drink of choice for the sporting class on every continent. Sadly, Prohibition mostly killed off America’s distilling tradition. After Repeal, the industry was dominated by better-financed European and Canadian imports of mass produced, commercial stuff. We created Ransom back in 1997 to do our part to right this historical wrong.

Located in the little mill town of Sheridan, Oregon, about 90 minutes southwest of Portland, our 40-acre Ransom farm & distillery is situated just behind the Boise-Cascade Mill out on Hauser Road. Our farm has been certified organic since 2011. We are dry farmers, collecting thousands of gallons of rainwater from the distillery roof to water the crops. We are solar-powered.
